Fano is an enchanting popular seaside resort in Italy on the Adriatic Sea while being a leading fishing port in the Marche region. It is also home to one of the most famous Italian carnivals and remarkably is one of the oldest dating back to medieval times.

Every year tens of thousands of people attend for a no holds-barred battle to catch a shower of chocolates and sweets from exotic parade floats that embody the carnival spirit.

Fano was famously named after the Roman colony of 'Fanum Fortunae' which took its name from a historic temple dedicated to the goddess of Fortune.
